Heating in this 8-quart stockpot is sure to satisfy the performance requirements of discerning cooks. The pot boasts triple-layer construction with stainless-steel exteriors bonded over a full aluminum core that extends up the sides as well as through the bottom. Aluminum is an excellent heat conductor, providing consistent heat for simmering soup, chili, or pasta. The stainless-steel pot is safe in the oven and can withstand broiler temperatures as well as the use of metal utensils. However, the lid is oven-safe only to 450 degrees F. All Contemporary Stainless is dishwasher-safe for quick cleanup and is covered by a lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde
From the Manufacturer
As the kitchen becomes the social center of more and more American homes, consumers are focusing greater attention on the details of kitchen design. Now, style-conscious home chefs with a taste for all things modern have a new line of cookware to call their own: Calphalon Contemporary Stainless.
| Calphalon Contemporary Stainless brings stunning, contemporary design into the home kitchen. Crafted from lustrous, brushed stainless steel and featuring clean lines and curvaceous silhouettes, Calphalon Contemporary Stainless expresses the very soul of modern style. Sweepingly sexy, sculpted handles and subtly domed glass covers lend additional panache to each piece. |
Professional, Versatile, Comfortable
Calphalon Contemporary Stainless features tri-ply construction--the choice of many professional chefs. A layer of heavy-gauge aluminum, sandwiched between the stainless-steel interior and exterior of each pan, provides superb conductivity and even heating throughout the vessel.
| Each uniquely shaped Calphalon Contemporary Stainless vessel is designed to accommodate several cooking techniques. Pans are ideal for use on the stovetop, in the oven, and even in the broiler. They'll also look fabulous on your table, so you can use them for serving, too. Calphalon Contemporary Stainless makes it easy to keep an eye on what you're cooking. Sparkling glass covers let you monitor a whole stovetop full of pans at a glance. The cookware also features long, sculpted handles that are as comfortable as they are beautiful. Not only do they feel great in your hand, they're designed to stay cool on the stovetop. | |
Easy Cleanup
| Calphalon Contemporary Stainless is 100 percent dishwasher-safe for effortless cleanup. (That's a feature you'll appreciate at the end of a long evening of entertaining.) You can also hand wash your pans using a dishcloth and hot sudsy water. For occasional polishing, we recommend Bar Keeper's Friend. |

The handles are extended to perfect length to work with a mitten or kitchen towel. The gradual flaring of the top half of the pot is great for cleaning because it allows for more arm angles. This also improves vision when looking at the bottom. The glass top is a must for perfect flame adjustment to achieve an ideal simmer. I use this pot only for stock making since it is a narrow tall pot. The previous reviewer objected to the time it took to bring water to a boil. I didn't notice any remarkable difference between this pot and my other pots. But since I'm only making stock, I know I will be using it for more than 2 hrs each time so losing seven minutes (if thats the case) is in the noise. And once you achieve a boil, simmering requires so little energy with the top on. My only issue is that the tri-ply could be thicker like thickness of Calphalon's cheaper Tri-Ply line. I'm guessing that it could be a compromise made to allow more ease...Read more 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 8-Quart Stockpot with Glass Lid (Kitchen) I have five other contemporary stainless pieces (skillets and pots), purchased when the line was first introduced, that I am satisfied with. When I wanted a new stockpot I decided to purchase the Calphalon Contemporary 8 quart stockpot and also decided to buy the separate insert for cooking pasta, corn on the cob, etc. (I didn't want the disc bottom multi-pot after reading the reviews about boiling over problems, splattering and lid problems, etc.). This pot is okay, but it is way too slow bringing water to a boil--it takes at least 20 minutes for water to come to a boil on my gas stove! This is a full seven minutes more than the old pot that I handed down to my son! Also, don't waste your money on purchasing the poorly designed pasta cooker insert. The fit is such that the water doesn't circulate or boil properly when using the insert. It takes forever to cook pasta with the insert, and the pot is difficult to control. This pot generally cooks better without the insert. This...Read more 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 8-Quart Stockpot with Glass Lid (Kitchen) Returned a Denmark 8 qt stockpot because one oven pot roast with red wine and it was permanently discolored. Nickel is a toxic metal, so not liking the bluish hue after first use. 3Bs had a good selection, so I looked around. This was clearly the best quality cookwear in the store. The heaviest, most finished, and the brushed finish will be serviceable for decades to come. It helps that this is a deep collection, so you can add to the set over time. Definitely pretty enough to place in the middle of the table and serve from. This is the real deal. Now I just have to talk myself into paying this much for another stock pot - even if it is ten bucks cheaper here, and with no 8% sales tax. The 13-piece set would make a great wedding present. |
