error", this crock pot truly has a problem with heating at too high of a level, to a point of being dangerous (and yes, I did read the instruction book!). I have been using crock pots for 26 years, and never had any meals burn. This particular pot burned each of the four meals I made with it, and I used recipes which I have been making for years in my older Rival model of the same size. The last straw was when I came home to a somewhat smokey kitchen caused by a meal which burned after only 4 1/2 hours of cook time on LOW (I suppose the HI setting would be useful for launching rockets to the moon?). Had I not come home until closer to the usual 8 to 10 hours cook time for that particular recipe, I might not have had a home to walk into! I agree with reviewer J. Jarrard - my foods burned primarily on just one side of the crock. The heating element is not only too hot, but it also heats unevenly...Read more 13 of 13 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Crock-Pot SCE600-EF 6-Quart Oval-Shaped Manual Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen) I got this crock at Costco for 39.99 (I got the black model) and from the beginning it has been fantastic. I believe there would be issues with people not using the right amount of food in this one though, since it is so big...the smaller amount of food will cook faster and may burn, like the oatmeal I tried overnight. It just was not filled enough. I do not use it while I am away during the day, because I am just nervous about malfunctioning appliances in general, but I do use it every weekend for roasts, soups, stocks, chili, etc. It makes amazing BBQ ribs - better than my husbands, who has a big outdoor smoker! I bought the cook book "Not Your Mother's Crockpot" and love it too...this book is not the "dump a can" kind of cookbook - you need to prep for it, but great recipes. This cookbook also is careful to tell you what size crock to use. Like I said earlier, it pays to read that part, since the recipe said to use a small crock pot and I ignored it and...Read more 21 of 24 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Crock-Pot SCE600-EF 6-Quart Oval-Shaped Manual Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen) I bought this Crockpot at Wal-Mart and cooked one of the recipes from the booklet that was included (pork chops with rice). The lid did not fit securely - it left gaps in the front and back allowing steam to escape. When I came home the food was burnt, but only on one side of the crockpot. The heating element must be uneven. I didn't try any other recipes, just returned it to the store! |
