Product Review

A versatile and handy 4 quart stock pot. Columbian's technology for applying porcelain creates a durable, chip resistant product that will last most families a lifetime. The glass-like surface does not interact with or alter the taste of food, and even the most stubborn foods clean up easily. Porcelain enamel is the result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a durable vitreous coating on a carbon steel core. It creates a smooth, hard finish that won’t burn and resists staining. It’s also non -porous so it won’t trap odors or food particles and provides a low coefficient of friction – meaning that it cleans up easily and, it is corrosion and chemically resistant so it will last a long time. When fired, the vessel is placed on pins so the bottom and sides are hardened during the firing process into one smooth laminated glass surface. You may notice slight pin indentations where the glass has flowed around the pin that supports the base during firing. The pin marks do not compromise the finish or performance of the vessel in any way but you should take additional care in handling if using on glass top stove.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for use on glass tops, April 16, 2008

I love this pot. It is great but buyers should understand that the label on this pot states that it is not to be used on glass tops, although the description of the items as shown on Amazon does not indicate this important fact. It is a great pot for gas stoves or electric burner stoves but not for glass top. Unfortunately, I have a glass top stove but I will not return this item because by the time I pay postage, this is no longer a good deal. I will give it to my daughter-in-law who does not have a glass top. She will love it because it is actually a good stock pot.

Pot is unusable for its intended task thanks to the finish coming off on the inside.

As soon as this pot came I was happy and ready to make chicken noodle soup, but there was a chip of white stuff missing. A big enough chip in the bottom to make me rethink owning this pot. If it chips this easily in shipping, will it chip this easy through normal usage? The size was just right and it was pretty, but pretty isn't going to hold up to time. We all know that enameled beauty wears easily and becomes ugly with time. So I can not give this pot a thumbs up. Why is the only tag available recommended? I would not recommend this product BUT AMAZON was excellent to work with in the return of the product and a refund. I recommend AMAZON.
