Product Review

The mouth of this gently rounded pot measures 9 inches across, while its flat bottom is only 4 inches, allowing you to use the small burner on your stove for a relatively big pot: the wide surface area will speed any soup or stock reduction you have in mind. Cast iron, of course, has marvelous heating qualities, so heat spreads evenly from this pot's base up its sides. You can also use this soup pot in the oven; loop handles help you carry and lift even the heaviest casserole. The baked-on interior and exterior enamel coating means this pot will not react with any acidic foods and is easy to clean. The glorious enameled colors of Le Creuset's cookware makes it suitable for the table, as well.

I've used my LeCreuset for many years and find it excellent for making dishes that require long slow cooking because of its ability to keep an even temperature w/o hotspots. Although I confess a bias towards unenamaled cast iron pots, they can't be used for acidic dishes such as tomato sauces. When I cook acidic foods, I happily rely upon my LeCreuset pans for good results. My only reason for not giving this product 5 stars is that the enamel has a small susceptability to chipping. This is a minor annoyance and shouldn't discourage anyone.Last I agree with another reviewer who said this brand it the best. Imitiations I have used have not performed as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Soup Pot, June 16, 2000

I recently purchased this pan and am very pleased with it. The Flame finish is as gorgeous as ever, but more importantly, the pan is of unsurpassable quality. Just be careful the first time you use it, you'll be surprised by how well it distributes heat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Functional and High- Quality at a Terrific Price, August 2, 2001

Le Creuset's 2 5/8-Quart Soup Pot is a wonderful addition to my kitchen. The pot is attractive, and cooks well. It is designed to fit the small burner on our ranges, so it doesn't take up lots of space when cooking. The pot works best when making modest sized servings of soups or stews which fits my family's needs perfectly. This is the first Le Creuset item I've purchased, and I couldn't be happier.
