Pretty Pot,
January 6, 2006 K. D. Ryan "critical cook" (rural New Hampshire) - See all my reviews
I was thrilled to receive this from my thoughtful 90 year old mother-in-law for Christmas. Green is my kitchen color and the clear lid enables checking on the cooking process without removing the lid. I also like that it is oval and more horizontal than vertical. My old crock pot was top heavy and often tipped in the car if not secured. I put it to use immediately. Unfortunately, although used according to directions, the liner developed a hairline crack after the first use. I called Rival and they instructed me to return it to the store as defective. Well, not wanting to upset my mother-in-law and create a commotion, that may be tricky to do...I wish they had been more responsive. After all, they sold their product. Now it is at my inconvenience to make it right. They should have sent a new liner.

My mother in law bought me this crock put 6 or 7 years ago. I use it weekly to this day and have zero complaints. Last Christmas my husband bought me a new programable Hamilton Beach one which I also love but I still kept this one. It is great to be able to have dinner and dessert going at the same time. Today I am making a whole chicken, for the shredded chicken and the stock in this one and fish chowder for dinner in the other. Yes, I am a true crock pot addict. :)

Cracked on first use,

We've been using slow cookers for years, so we bought this one and kept it ready to use as a spare. This week, we took it out, washed the insert, put some food in it and turned it on. Four hours later the food was cooked but the insert had developed spider cracks, including one through crack.
We called Rival and they refused to do anything under warranty since we did not keep the receipt. This even though we had the packaging and this had happened on first use. I found other reports on the internet who bought the same model and developed the same problem on first use, so obviously this is a manufacturing defect. Needless to say, we won't be buying any Rival products / Sunbeam / Jarden products in the future. (Rival and Sunbeam are now owned by Jarden.)
