I ordered this pot after I had purchased 2 sizes of the Harsch Fermenting pots just because I liked the color and shape of the TSM and wanted to try it and compare with the pots I already use. I still like the color and outside shape, but those are the only things I prefer to the Harsch pot. The TSM has a smaller channel for the lid and does not hold as much water. That means that one must be more attentive and diligent in keeping the channel filled to maintain the seal and I definitely prefer the lower maintenance Harsch pots. The interior of the pot narrows towards the top and I apparently didn't buy enough veggies as I should have because the stone weights weren't big enough and I needed to add paper-weights to cover the large area that weren't weighted by the stones. The straight sides of the Harsch pot make it easier to make smaller batches if you aren't perfect in your calculations of how many vegetables to buy and process. I didn't like was that the edge of the lid was...Read more

I compared this crock to the more expensive one and was concerned about one of the reviews that said this crock developed slime on the seal. I did not have that problem. I did not have any problems. I love this crock and my sauerkraut came out perfectly. I have never fermented anything before so I was nervous about mold, slime, unhealthy bacteria, etc. I let my sauerkraut ferment for 6 weeks, trying it every week after the first two weeks of fermentation. I have never tasted kraut like this. It is so delicious. Even my picky 3 year old loves it. This crock was soooo easy to use. I am very impressed! I am going to buy the 20 liter crock as well so I can make pickles in it. There is no need to spend more for a fermenting crock. This one is great. Oh, and I had many questions about the crock before my batch (remember I was very nervous) so I called TSM and left a message. A very helpful woman called back within half an hour and took the time to answer all my questions. Great company and...Read more

Cheaper than the "other" hyped pot,

As the title stated, it's cheaper than the other hyped ceramic crock. Both have the same important feature - the water seal at the top. Google the "harsch" method and you can see how this works. It's a hermetic seal that keeps the bad micro critters out. I actually prefer the lower point of gravity the handles provide.
As to the shipping... all I can say is 'wow'. Although the pot stands about 1 foot tall, it was packed in a 4 foot box with quite a bit of packing.
I have a 2 gallon batch of pickles happily fermenting in the corner of my kitchen as I type. Tasted one a couple of days ago and I can say that the old ways are quite tasty.
To TSM, you should include the weight stones :)
